Conference Presenter

Dr. Joyce Braak, M.D., CTS

 

Dr. Joyce Braak, M.D., CTS is a psychiatrist who has also practiced as a trauma surgeon, is currently President of the Institute for Research on Women’s Health as well as Director of that organization’s Human Rights and Women’s Health Project.

Dr. Braak has been researching, writing, and speaking both nationally and internationally on ethics, human rights, and legal issues for many years. She currently serves as  UN Liaison Officer for the Institute on Violence Abuse and Trauma(IVAT), and as Chairman of the United Nations Task Force and Caucus on Human Rights and Violence Against Women, NGO Committee on the Status of Women.  She is the official United Nations representative of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies(ISTSS) and of the Netherlands Council of Women(NVR). 

In 2004 Dr. Braak  represented the United States at the 26th International Congress of the Medical Women’s International Association held in Tokyo, Japan,  also in 2007 in Acra, Ghana.  She is a member of the American Medical Women's Association's(AMWA) Gender Equity TaskForce and represents AMWA on the National Partnership to End Interpersonal Violence (NPEIV).
