Ms. King is the Regional Director for Justice For Children’s Washington, D.C. Chapter. Justice For Children's ("JFC") headquarters is in Houston, Texas.  JFC is a grass roots non-profit organization founded in 1987 by former prosecutor Randy Burton to address the many “system failures” that drop children through the cracks of the child welfare and civil/criminal legal systems.  JFC is one of the few organizations that accepts cases for direct advocacy when a child has not been protected and is in danger of being re-abused.  We have many cases in which perpetrators of child physical or sexual abuse are trying to - or have succeeded -- in getting custody of their young victims through family court proceedings.  JFC-DC works with legal interns/externs and volunteers, performs casework advocacy for individual children, court-watches cases in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, speaks at conferences, works with the media, coordinates Amicus Curiae briefs for selected appellate cases.  In 2009, JFC-DC launched the Three Angels Fund in Memory of Anthony, Austin and Athena Castillo.  This fund supports our efforts to recruit pro bono attorneys to work on behalf of abused children and the parents who are protecting them Pro bono attorney Gregory F. Jacob has two landmark appeals on behalf on JFC-DC cases:  Fox v Wills, 2006, Maryland Court of Appeals and Doe v Doe, 2009, Hawai'i Intermediate Court of Appeals.

In 2006, after Fox v Wills, JFC-DC helped pass Maryland HB 700 into law which establishes a "duty of ordinary care and diligence" for attorneys appointed to represent children in custody cases.

House Marjority Leader, Steny Hoyer spoke at JFC-DC's December 2008 and 2009 Annual Holiday Receptions; photographs are online at:
